RAK GAS and P.K.N. Orlen S.A. Encounter Gas at Onshore Site Oryx-1 in Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah, August 24th, 2023
RAK GAS and P.K.N. Orlen S.A. Encounter Gas at Onshore Site Oryx-1 in Ras Al Khaimah.
RAK GAS, in partnership with P.K.N. Orlen S.A., has tested gas at the Oryx-1 exploration Well. This well, situated within the onshore Block 5 concession that covers 619 square kilometres, is located just to the south of Ras Al Khaimah's metropolitan region.
During initial tests of the Pabdeh formation, gas was returned to the surface. These preliminary findings are part of an expansive ongoing evaluation initiative set to continue in the forthcoming weeks.
The Oryx-1 site builds upon Ras Al Khaimah's 57-year tradition of onshore exploration, underscoring the region's enduring commitment to this field. Early indications from the Oryx-1 well hint at prospective horizons in the Cenozoic aged Pabdeh formation, potentially signalling further exploration and appraisal opportunities. As evaluations progress, stakeholders may notice an increase in gas-related operations at the Oryx site and in the nearby prospective area.
The RAK Petroleum Authority's inaugural licensing rounds in 2018 and 2019 are manifesting tangible outcomes. Alignments with industry players like Orlen P.K., previously known as PGNIG, for Block 5, as well as the industry frontrunner Eni SPA for Blocks A and Block 7, echo RAK GAS's dedication to energy prospecting within the Emirate.
After the advancements in Block 5, attention turns to onshore Block 6 and its potential hydrocarbon resources. Set for market introduction in 2024, 3D seismic data was acquired for Block 6, aimed at aiding the creation of detailed subsurface maps. The insights derived from this data, expected to be shared with selected stakeholders by the end of 2023, highlight Block 6 as a significant consideration for the global hydrocarbon investment community.
